At July's On The Beach event in Brighton, England, the big screen behind the stage developed an unscheduled co-star: an update dialog, looming over the performance and offering the timeless options "Remind me later" and "Install updates."

Part of the message was hidden behind speaker stacks loud enough to reach the back rows, but the dialog remained plainly visible to the audience. Performer David Rodigan either didn't notice or was too professional to acknowledge it, and carried on while somewhere a technician presumably contemplated the three bad options: let the update run, dismiss it and risk an encore appearance, or touch anything at all during a choreographed show.

The Register notes that the modern equivalent of a blown bulb or an undersized Stonehenge prop is now the stray OS notification — and that even a sunny seaside gig with a heatwave in progress offers no refuge from the update treadmill. As the headline act would later put it: welcome to the House of Fun.
