At 2007.mobile, a browser project recreates Apple's first iPhone as it appeared at launch in 2007. The display has wide bezels. The familiar buttons sit in their original places, and the skeuomorphic icons are intact. Safari is included, although it currently offers little practical use.
The implementation remains partial. Calculator works reliably, while Contacts struggles. Features that require an internet connection fail, including attempts to load today's web through the old Safari.
The project joins a group of browser recreations for older systems, including Apple's abandoned replacement for System 7 and an XP-like environment at win32.run. Light Touch offers a fuller implementation, but it requires a more involved setup than opening Chrome on a Windows machine. Apple launched the App Store in 2008, so third-party apps belong to a later stage of the iPhone platform. For now, the emulator is chiefly a historical curiosity.
