OpenAI says it introduced its first GPT‑6 models for paid customers last month. The new ChatGPT rollout extends the technology to a service used by more than 1.2 billion people each week.
GPT‑6 adds Intelligent UI, which lets ChatGPT select a response format for each request. An answer can combine text with graphics, tappable buttons, forms, charts or an interactive experience. A comparison may appear as a side-by-side view, and a complex explanation can use an interactive diagram. Simple questions can still receive plain text answers. The feature can also generate task-specific tools such as savings calculators, bill splitters and games.
The announcement demonstrates the feature with a Sunday lamb roast plan labeled GPT‑5.6 Instant. The response adapts quantities to an uncertain guest count, showing a guide for four, six, eight and ten people. It recommends 3 to 4 pounds of bone-in lamb and 2 pounds of potatoes for four guests, rising to 6 to 7.5 pounds of lamb and 5 pounds of potatoes for ten. The plan covers preparation, roasting, resting, vegetables, gravy and dessert. It gives a 425°F start for about 20 minutes, a 350°F finish, target internal temperatures of 125 to 130°F for medium-rare and 135°F for medium, plus a 30 to 40 minute resting period. A schedule for a 6:00 pm meal places lamb preparation at 3:00, roasting at about 3:45, potato preparation at 4:30, resting at 5:00, vegetables at 5:15, gravy and peas at 5:30, carving at 5:40 and dinner at 6:00. The example also suggests reheating the crumble for 15 to 20 minutes after dinner.
OpenAI built Intelligent UI on a library of native streamable components and a compiler that processes interfaces as GPT‑6 generates them. Components can appear progressively during generation. Training evaluated the clarity, usefulness and completeness of generated interfaces, including decisions about layout, visuals, interaction and cases where text is the better format.
GPT‑6 can begin answering as it continues its reasoning. OpenAI says GPT‑6 Extra High started responding as quickly as GPT‑5.6 Medium in an internal evaluation of high-value everyday agentic tasks, then achieved a higher overall score than GPT‑5.6 Extra High. For web-search questions, GPT‑6 Instant began answering 44% sooner on average than GPT‑5.6 Instant. OpenAI also reports better decisions about when to search and stronger support for answers. On difficult internal tests, GPT‑6 addressed the key part of a question more often than GPT‑5.6.
Safety training covers cyberattacks, biological threats and violence. OpenAI says GPT‑6 resists adaptive multi-turn attempts to bypass its safeguards more effectively, uses conversation history to detect risks and reduces unnecessary refusals for harmless requests. The model also received training on honesty and on communicating capability limits. The company links further results to its GPT‑6 system card at https://cdn.openai.com/pdf/gpt-6-october.pdf.
The rollout begins globally in the Chat tab for ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise. Free and Go access follows the next day, and Enterprise availability depends on workplace administrator settings. GPT‑6 Sol powers the paid tiers, and GPT‑6 Luna powers Free and Go. The update affects ChatGPT conversations. Work and Codex models remain unchanged.
