The Laravel team has published an official Laravel extension for the Zed editor. Version 0.1.0 appeared in Zed's extension registry on July 30th and connects the first-party Laravel LSP to the editor, providing completions, hover information, diagnostics, document links, and code actions in PHP and Blade files.

Laravel LSP, the first-party language server announced at Laracon US 2026, understands your application and can complete config keys, route names, view paths, translation strings, middleware, container bindings, Livewire components, and Inertia pages — and flag references that do not exist. The Zed extension handles the editor integration.

Setup is minimal: open the Extensions page via the command palette (zed: extensions), search for "Laravel (Official)", and install. The extension downloads the language server binary itself — no need to install laravel/lsp separately — and checks for updates at most once every two hours.

No configuration is required by default. Optional initialization options can be passed via lsp.laravel.initialization_options in Zed settings, for example setting phpEnvironment to "sail". The phpEnvironment option tells the server how to find a working PHP command for indexing; it defaults to auto, which tries Herd, Valet, Sail, Lando, DDEV, and then local PHP in that order. Each LSP feature can be toggled individually through the same options object; the full list is documented in the laravel/lsp GitHub repo.

Mike Bronner's community Laravel extension for Zed remains actively developed and takes a different approach: Laravel LSP runs PHP scripts inside your project to query the framework directly (hence phpEnvironment), while the community server parses files with tree-sitter and never executes your application. The community README advises against running both simultaneously, so users should pick one.

Zed now joins Sublime Text, Cursor, and the official Laravel VS Code extension as officially supported editors; Neovim and OpenCode can also attach to the same server with a few lines of config. The extension is MIT licensed, installable from the Zed extension page, with source available in the laravel/zed-extension GitHub repository.
