AI Review for Laravel Upgrades

Shift now integrates AI-powered code review into its Laravel upgrade workflow.

LARAVEL NEWS, July 8, 2026 curated by Heiko

The feature combines Shift's detailed migration comments with AI context for a second-pass analysis, improving upgrade accuracy and reducing manual review overhead for developers.

Shift has released a beta version of AI Review, an optional add-on for Laravel upgrade Shifts starting from Laravel 6.x. This tool introduces a second pass of analysis after the initial Shift process completes, aiming to automate the final manual steps typically handled by developers.

Powered by Claude (Opus 4.8), the system analyzes the codebase and processes the detailed comments left by Shift. While Shift handles deterministic changes, AI Review addresses more contextual adjustments. It utilizes curated AI prompts and optimizes specific data, such as Composer dependency changes, to improve speed and accuracy.

The feature is currently available as a $9 add-on. Once the AI Review finishes, the pull request is updated with atomic commits and a final summary of all modifications. JMac, the creator of Shift, indicated that the goal is to eventually integrate this functionality into all Shifts and potentially include it in the standard offering based on feedback.
