Cloudflare brings Deno into its Workers platform

Cloudflare will take on the entire Deno team, according to founder Ryan Dahl.

Deno’s runtime will receive monthly bug and security releases for one more year, then development will stop. Deno Deploy will close after six months, with migration help for paying customers. JSR will continue under Cloudflare, and the teams will pursue a shared platform around Workers and Durable Objects.

On October 9, 2026, Deno founder Ryan Dahl announced that the entire Deno team will join Cloudflare. The move follows a path from the JavaScript and TypeScript runtime through Deno Deploy to celld, a project built on Cloudflare Workers’ programming model for distributed applications. Cloudflare will combine Deno’s work with the Workers and Durable Objects teams. The stated goal is a common server programming model for Cloudflare’s network and customer infrastructure.

The transition ends Deno’s separate runtime and hosting roadmap. The Deno runtime will receive monthly bug-fix and security releases for another year. Development will then stop, although the project will remain open source. Deno Deploy will operate for six more months and then shut down. Paying customers will receive migration support for Cloudflare Workers.

JSR stays in operation and relocates its infrastructure to Cloudflare. Deno will keep supporting rusty_v8 and work toward integrating it into workerd. Dahl links the platform work to AI agents, citing Durable Objects’ serverless execution, persistent state, WebSockets, and high-level JavaScript interface. Dahl and Kenton Varda provided further details in a joint Cloudflare blog post.
