The voting phase has begun for the "Duration class" RFC, a proposal to introduce a new class into PHP for representing time spans. Tim Düsterhus announced the vote on the PHP internals mailing list.

The RFC is decided by two votes. The primary vote asks whether to accept the proposal and requires a two-thirds supermajority to pass. The secondary vote concerns method naming: if the option for abbreviated method names reaches a two-thirds majority, those names will be chosen; otherwise, the full names will be used.

Voting closes on 31 July 2026 at 17:00 UTC. The RFC wiki page is available at https://wiki.php.net/rfc/duration_class and the prior discussion thread is at https://news-web.php.net/php.internals/131376.
