Elon Musk said SpaceXAI, the company formed by merging SpaceX and xAI, is set to become SpaceXSI. He gave no date for the change. At publication time, spacexsi.com was listed for sale.
The background is a September 29 executive order from US President Donald Trump. It tells federal agencies to use SI, short for Super Intelligence, in official communications and other non-statutory documents. The order reaches technologies covered by the existing federal definition of AI. It does not require private companies to rename themselves.
Musk endorsed the terminology in posts on X and said SpaceXAI would follow it. Mark Zuckerberg and other technology leaders already use “superintelligence” for their ambitions. OpenAI did not respond when asked whether it would consider the name OpenSI.
Musk has made a major corporate renaming before. Twitter became X in July 2023, nine months after he bought the service. He has also called SpaceX a super intelligence company. The proposed name evokes the 1990s Peugeot 106 XSi, a performance car, while the report leaves NASA with the rocket association.
